DIRECTOR OF MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS

General Summary of Responsibilities:
Lead, develop and guide the plant management team, the Maintenance team and the Planning team. Will represent the Manufacturing Operations team in the Global Operations Executive. Responsible for creating an environment of excellent performance within Manufacturing Operations. Responsibility for ensuring execution of the customer demand plan in Manufacturing.

Job Duties:

  • Production Planning: Responsible for the Production planning function. Be committed to develop, support and assist the planning function by the provision of the appropriate tools, information, direction and facilitation.
  • Manufacturing Management: Responsible for the Manufacturing Function. Be committed to building on the present execution capability that is resident in Manufacturing. Ensure that best practices are unilaterally adopted between the plants and that a common continuous improvement philosophy is active.
  • Maintenance: Responsible for building on the present Maintenance structure and developing the tools and capabilities along best practice.
  • Continuous improvement: It is essential that there is ongoing Continuous improvement activity that is well formed , considered and executed. There will be a responsibility for this role to implement in a phased manner over time key lean tools that include, 5s, Standard Work Procedure (SWP) Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and Value Stream Mapping (VSM).
  • Leadership: The person who fills this role will need to be a “hands on” team player that understands not only the needs of the organization they lead but the needs of the total organization as well as the market. Excellent communication skills, a sense of urgency and a strong work ethic are essential. The capability to take responsibility for the performance of the team is paramount.
  • Demand Execution for Manufactured Finished Goods: The responsibility for decision making in respect to executing equipment and Human Resource capacity to meet the demand plan resides completely in this role.
  • Strategic Opinion: It is essential and expected that the Director of Manufacturing Operations is an able contributor to the strategic conversations that will dictate our future capability both with in the Seattle site and as a member of the global Operations Executive.

Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • Enthusiasm for developing people and the processes within which they operate. Prior experience managing high performing cross functional teams, managing the Implementation of Lean techniques and managing budgets in a multi product / multi process environment is essential. Experience in a cyclical manufacturing environment would be beneficial.
  • 4-year degree in technical field, or 5+ years equivalent experience required.

DIRECTOR OF COMMERCIALIZATION

General Summary of Responsibilities:
Lead, develop and guide the Commercialization team. Will represent the Commercialization team in the Global Operations Executive. Responsible for creating an environment of excellent performance within Process and Product introduction. Responsible for the final approval for Commercialization (AFC) acceptance. Responsibility to facilitate, develop and implement initiatives across the team that will result in a well organized, well structured execution of activities. Responsibility for ensuring capability within a commercialization project to meet the customer demand fulfillment ramp plan in Manufacturing. Responsible for the delivery of robust and capable Equipment, process and production lines to the Manufacturing Operations function. Additionally, this position will have responsibility for Process improvement execution. Responsibility for Liaison with the procurement group on all sourcing projects. Ensure that there are clear deliverables in all Interaction with the SBU’s.

Job Duties:

  • Resource Planning: Responsible for the resource planning and management of all activities within the team. Be committed to develop, support and assist the commercialization team by the provision of the appropriate tools, information, direction and facilitation.
  • Approval for Commercialization sign-off: Responsible for the quality control of projects that gain acceptance into the approval for commercialization gate. A key output will be the delivery of projects to the timeline and schedule that is committed to the market. Delivery to the market means that the agreed customer demand requirement is filled on date of launch.
  • Process Delivery: Responsibility for the delivery of robust and stable processes including equipment to Manufacturing Operations from the commercialization team.
  • Master List: Responsible for having “intimate” knowledge of the master list and the New products that are a part of it. Ensuring that all products that have changes are supported by an action plan. Liaising with Procurement and QA to ensure that appropriate and timely planning is being executed.
  • Continuous improvement.: It is essential that there is ongoing Continuous improvement activity that is well formed , considered and executed. There will be a responsibility for this role to implement upgraded project management and resource management processes on a continual basis. This role will also have responsibility for delivery of process improvement to Manufacturing Operations.
  • Leadership: The person who fills this role will need to be a “hands on” team player that understands not only the needs of the organization they lead but the needs of the total organization as well as the market. Excellent communication skills, a sense of urgency and a strong work ethic are essential. SENIOR DESIGN ENGINEER

General Summary of Responsibilities:
Plans and directs complex engineering developmental projects. Ideate, design, analyze, document and support the research, development, testing and introduction of new and improved products.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct engineering analysis, CAD modeling and drafting, detail design, materials and process studies, materials selection, initial BOM development, cost/benefit analyses, and other duties related to product design engineering.
  • Develop prototypes, draft patterns and layout recommendations, help define production steps and directions, and help develop initial costing for new and revised products.
  • Follow through on production startup of new products. This includes assisting training of in-house production supervisors prior to and including pilot runs, expediting resolution of problems incurred during new production starts, and on-site quality supervision during development and start-up of off-shore contractors.
  • Conduct the planning, execution and monitoring of schedules and budgets for major design engineering projects.
  • Draft and/or direct the development of working drawings, specifications, and other documentation for initial and revised product configurations.
  • Contribute as a design engineering interface for drawing and spec revisions.
  • Coordinate changes to patterns, designs, materials and tooling as needed to support the ECOs.
  • Plan, execute/monitor, and support product performance verification testing (lab and field) of candidate designs during the concept development and detail design phases of development.
  • Document and maintain necessary design and development notebooks, checklists, etc. for the products and projects assigned. Maintain accurate project files.

Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • Engineering B.S. and a significant pattern of professional, technical education. A graduate technical degree is preferred.
  • This is a top engineering position requiring advanced knowledge in a particular field of engineering or scientific discipline along with a minimum of eight years of progressive design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in coordinating and supporting multiple, parallel development projects is preferred. Background in industrial design, materials science, textiles, plastics, and/or light assembly/manufacturing is required.

SENIOR TEXTILE ENGINEER

General Summary of Responsibilities:
Establish product specifications for textile based materials used in CDI outdoor, military and medical products. Recommend textile materials that fulfill specific functional design requirements. Design laboratory testing procedures and process that effectively evaluate textile quality and performance. Perform laboratory testing and documentation on new and existing products at various stages of development and production. Develop test plans, acquire or design and build necessary test apparatus, compile and analyze data. Ensure that the testing has been performed adequately and that all reports and records are completed properly.

Job Duties:

  • Work with design and engineering teams to determine testing requirements and appropriate test methodologies.
  • Develop textile material specifications that ensure field performance of applicable products.
  • Evaluate data and write report that concisely documents the testing performed and details conclusions that may be drawn from the testing results.
  • Conduct destructive and nondestructive laboratory testing of products and materials and provide design and performance information as requested.
  • Work with Project Managers and Lab Coordinator to prioritize and schedule product testing projects.
  • Find, modify, source, design and build, or coordinate the construction of required test jigs, fixtures, measurement devices and related apparatuses.
  • Prepare and conduct field and lab testing in a safe, accurate and efficient manner.
  • Identify, locate and follow test protocols established by regulatory agencies (i.e., ANSI, ASTM, CE, ISO, etc.).
  • Establish textile test procedures and train others as applicable.
  • Assist the Product Development, Engineering and QA staff in analyzing and interpreting the test results to evaluate the quality, safety and performance of outdoor gear materials in laboratory and field conditions.

Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • Engineering B.S. with a textile focus and a significant pattern of professional, technical education.
  • A graduate technical degree is preferred. Active association and involvement in the field required, professional registration is encouraged.
  • This is a senior level engineering position requiring advanced knowledge in a particular field of engineering or scientific discipline along with a minimum of five years of progressive design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.

ELECTROMECHANICAL CONTROLS TECHNICIAN

General Summary of Responsibilities:
Responsible for assembling and installing electrical control panels for manufacturing machinery and equipment. Work with a team of engineers, machinists, and mechanical technicians to fabricate new production equipment, repair and upgrade existing equipment, and build prototype machines for product development, with an emphasis on safety, quality, and reliability.

Job Duties:

  • Assemble control panels to UL and local code standards using engineering electrical schematics.
  • Install control panels on new and existing equipment, field wire external control components.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electro-pneumatic systems on existing production equipment.
  • Fabricate stands, brackets and mounting hardware as needed.
  • Rework or modify non-compliant control systems to bring them up to current electrical code. Document changes to keep schematics accurate and up-to-date.

Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • A two-year degree related to the manufacturing industry, such as Industrial Technology, Electrical or Electromechanical Technology, Manufacturing Technology or similar program, or hands-on, on-the-job experience with industrial controls and devices.
  • 3 years working with industrial electrical controls in a manufacturing-related industry.
  • Familiarity with electrical wiring standards and conventions, including NEC and UL.
  • Ability to read electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic control schematics.
  • Ability to assemble and wire control panels from schematics.
  • Understanding of industrial controls and components such as 3 phase power, motors, contactors, servo motors and drives, PLCs, solenoid valves, limit switches, temperature controllers, etc.

LEAD CNC MACHINIST

General Summary of Responsibilities:
Write and edit programs for CNC lathes and mills, select cutting tools, set-up and operate machines, create and maintain job set-up sheets, monitor tooling and material usage, and Train operators in machine set-up, operation, and program edits. Also, check and record work using a variety of inspection equipment to assure quality standards, and make part count transactions to support the MRP process.

Job Duties:

  • Demonstrated ability to program, set up, and operate CNC machines in a production environment working with very close tolerances in large quantity part runs.
  • Understand and perform edits to CNC programs.
  • Create, maintain, and follow job set-up sheets.
  • Fabricate a variety of parts from supplied drawings and work instructions.
  • Ensure quality standards by checking and recording work using a variety of precision measuring tools.
  • Assist and train Machine Operators in setting up of machines.
  • Accurately update material and parts inventory data using tracking software.

VALUE STREAM MANUFACTURING ENGINEER

General Summary of Responsibilities:
Implementation and execution of continuous improvement ideas, programs, plans or suggestions to ensure the manufacturing processes is efficient while maintaining the highest level of quality. This is a hands-on engineering position that will require learning, teaching and doing. This person will interface with a multi-cultured workforce on a daily basis.

Job Duties:

  • Layout production lines to eliminate unnecessary labor and material waste, maximizing our manufacturing efficiency. Example: ability to Value-Stream Map parts and process flow from suppliers to CDI Distribution Center in order to eliminate wasteful or redundant activities.
  • Work toward manufacturing processes that are controlled and repeatable by implementing and maintaining statistical process control, poke yoke quality methods, and continuous parts flow, etc.
  • Work with fabrication, tool shop, and maintenance personnel, including suppliers when applicable, to ensure maximum production efficiency.
  • Create and maintain work instructions for each production work station
  • Teach continuous improvement principals to production, staff and suppliers.
  • Work with R&D to help determine the most efficient means of manufacturing new products.
  • Work with Quality Control to find ways of maintaining and/or increasing our quality based on customer demands

Education, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Background should include at least one of the following: Lean Manufacturing; Value Stream Mapping; Toyota Production System; KanBan Pull Systems, Supply Chain Management; Just in Time; or World Class Manufacturing Techniques
